About Me

My photo
I'm a 45 year old mother of 3 boys. I live in a beautiful old house that needs a lot of TLC with my youngest son and 2 dogs. I am working hard at keeping myself healthy and fit by working out and doing a spot of running. I'm a creative person and am passionate about keeping traditional skills alive. I cook, knit, bake, garden, preserve, read, write and am now learning to spin and quilt. Oh and I sometimes swear.....

Penne a la arrabiata

Today was a good day.  I spent it with friends planning a Christmas Fayre with a spot of lunch thrown in. Actually managed to eat something (big improvement!)  There was much laughter and gentle teasing as well as some serious chat about what I should be doing to get my life into some sort of order.

We were just chatting generally about food and I managed to say something that had them speechless.  I said that despite eating pasta probably 3 or 4 times a week for years and years I actually don't like it. Last week as I sat at the table with the boys with a bowl of pasta in front of me I looked at it and a lightbulb went off in my head.  I don't like pasta.  So why the hell have I been eating it for years? (Actually I know the answer - it's quick, it's versatile and I can adapt it to suit the fussy eater, the meat eaters and vegetarian all in one dish)

My friend looked me in the eye and said 'It's time to start doing the things you like, including eating what you like!' So we had rice for tea tonight! :-)

I recently saw this video on Youtube (although it's been around for a while) and it makes me crack up every time.  Now when I think of pasta this comes to my mind.

Reading from work, assuming it's the classic lego / Eddie Izzard sketch, I also crack up every time I see it!

Keep on blogging Ally, one day you'll look back and laugh on the day you realised you don't like pasta.
